Vita Noticed how Petal recoiled as she tried to offer an explanation about her brother. So she stopped right there. The sooty-colored mare could tell from the look on her pale friend's face that she was done. Done with the Prairie. Done with her brother and her nephew. She felt a pang of sadness for all of them, including Petal. Whatever happened between the three of them was clearly much deeper than Vita Nova truly realized. The mare wanted to tell her friend that she'd always see her as a member of their family, but instead, she held her breath. Nova didn't want to make this any more difficult for Petal than she had to. "You have to do what's right for you then, Petal."
Given the years that had passed, Vita Nova assumed Petal's girls were nearly grown now. They were always so close in age to Tavas, and it had been months, almost a year actually, since Tavas lived with her in the Inlet. How quickly time passes, Vita Nova muses now. Much too fast...
Petal asks about Warsaw, and Vita Nova can't help but feel embarrassed. It's the first time she's felt this way about him since the grey stallion showed up on Luthien and challenged Shamwari for her. Tavas was just a days-old filly at the time. Vita Nova had no explanation for Shamwari or his family, as to why she brought all this trouble to their shores. And then she just left the Prairie one day and never came back. All this time had passed, and she'd stuck with him. Her blue-eyed gaze flicks to the ground beneath her hooves when Petal asks about her feelings for him. "It's complicated." was the only answer she could muster. "He cares for me, He treats me differently than the rest. But he is not kind." She tries to explain. "It's just not in his nature."
She breathes a heavy sigh before her glum expression hardens and she tries to offer a more pragmatic approach. "Shamwari must know what's coming. Warsaw does not tread quietly." She explains. "But he has allies all over the island. Atlantis... the Lagoon. I'm not sure if anywhere is safe."
