bring me back to life...

The bright look in his eyes when he saw her only made her feel ten times worse for what she was about to tell him. She only wished she had gotten to know Requiem more, or maybe the timing was just always going to be bad. The moment she said that she needed to tell him something, she saw the instant confusion in his eyes and her head ducked more. He was going to be so hurt and she only had herself to blame. She wouldn't put this on Ruger. She had allowed it to happen. It wasn't fair to either to them, that Ruger had to lose in battle only then to find out that they could connect in a way she couldn't with anyone else and that Requiem had to win her in battle only to find out she had gone behind his back and bred with the very stallion he saved her from. She knew how bad it looked and sounded. She wouldn't try to sugar coat it. There wasn't really a way to.

The more she spoke, the more she watched his emotions crumble right before her and it broke her heart to see it. He stepped back as if she hit him, his sides moving rapidly and when he spoke, it was in the softest voice and not at all what she expected him to say. She expected his anger, for him to yell at her, make her feel like crap, cause she did for hurting him. his voice cut off when she told him that she wanted to go back to Ruger and she hung her head again, ready for whatever he would say next. He said that he had feelings for her and her eyes softened. "I feel our bond, Requiem. I do..." She let her voice trail off, knowing it wouldn't help at this point. He wouldn't want to hear that she cared about him but was falling for another.

His lip trembled and he said that he loved her, making her breath catch. He said that he couldn't see her hurting for the one she loved and her ears flicked back. Then he looked away and she could have sworn she saw tears brimming in his eyes right before he flung his head away. He told her to go and she froze for a second, unsure of what she had heard and still upset by how hurt he was. The next time he screamed and she stumbled back, a rattling snort leaving her nostrils as she jerked her head back in a flinch at the tone and her head ducked. Her body shuddered but when she heard the hoof beats, she realized they were going away, not coming toward her. She watched as Requiem ran further into the Inlet, leaving her behind. She sat there for a minute, shivering and trying to compose herself. If she went back to Ruger like this, he'd probably think Requiem did something to her and that wasn't what she wanted.

Requiem didn't deserve what she did to him. He deserved much better. She could only hope that some day he could forgive her and maybe they could be friends. She was sure what he needed most right now was space though, so with a last quivering breath, she turned from the Inlet and went back into the water, her determination setting a course to track down Ruger now.
