Both Nattergal and Havelle had come here hoping they might gain a father, where they had none before, but from what they've seen so far, and from what their half-siblings confess now, such hope is quickly fading.

Zjeena had been up front with the twins about who their father was and why they were living in Paradise. They knew the situation must be difficult for Liland, but they hadn't imagined how hard he might take it. The twins are yet unaware of their mother's tryst with Rougaru and the shifting of her heart's desires. They don't understand the nature or the severity of what's going on between their parents. All they know is that something isn't right.

"Wow..." Havelle responds. Her expression is contemplative in the quiet moments that follow. "That's awful." She shoots a sorrowful glance at her brother. "I'm surprised he's like this. Mother always said good things about him. I wasn't expecting this."

And it's true. Despite her frustrations, Zjeena was careful never to speak ill of Liland in front of anyone, and especially not in front of her children. Zjeena also didn't know how Liland's attitude had changed during her time in Paradise. The Liland she described to the twins was a much different Liland than the one who exists in the Bay today.

Their return home is not a total loss, however. They may not have found the father they intended to find, but they did find their siblings. Rayna and Bran seem, at the very least, relatable. There is yet hope that they might find kindship in them, and expand their horizons beyond just each other and their mother.
