can you see me now?

She grew bored in the sandy dunes, waiting for the results of Shaydowfax's battle with the strange stallion. She'd never seen the male before he called out his challenge and she worried as the Lagoon stallion said she should. Shaydowfax was pregnant, after all, and the fight could endanger her unborn foal. That would surely upset Shaydowfax so Illusion worried for her. She didn't want to see an innocent child die over anything. But she didn't regret staying with the other mare, either. Shaydowfax had proved herself a capable leader time and again and Illusion had come to trust her. She wondered what would happen if Shaydowfax lost the battle. Would the stallion kick her out or let her stay? Would she want to stay? Would Shaydowfax be allowed to stay? Would she want to?

So many questions and no answers yet. She snorted and continued pacing. Finally, she couldn't take it anymore so she loped into the water and toward the free lands. Maybe she could ease her mind with some idle conversation. Maybe she'd come across that charming stallion who managed to keep her entertained for a night. Her own belly was starting to round with the unborn child. Shaydowfax was already gone to fight when she came back to the Dunes so she probably didn't notice anything. Illusion was giddy with the thought of having a foal though. She always knew she would be a good mother. She'd always dreamed of it. She thought she would have more of a connection with a stallion besides a one night stand, but oh well. Maybe later, she'd find someone special. For now, her son or daughter would be her world and that was more than good enough.

She found herself coming ashore around the Meadow. The dying grass was covered in a thin sheet of snow but she went right to work, pawing at the top layer to get a few bites of grass. It was cold, but it would do. Her skin shivered in the cool breeze as she shook off the water from the ocean and snorted, clearing her nostrils. Glancing around, she wondered who else might be looking for company.
