The time was drawing near for them to leave, but his mother had not yet taken him out to sea. Perhaps she thought him to weak to make the swim? Or another fear that held her back? Regardless, the typically shy colt was beginning to get restless. Up until this point he had stayed next to the red mare without issue but today was different. The thought of his two-toned stoic father a drive for him to leave his dam’s side and head out on his own. He just wouldn’t go far on his adventure; surely that made it alright? But Bacardi couldn’t just leave, he had to wait until his mother was dozing off before he quietly snuck away, careful not to step on a twig or anything else to alert the fiery mare.
Once Bacardi was far enough away to feel like he was on his own, a bundle of nerves settled inside him. Everything looked so much bigger when he was alone. Golden lupine eyes peer up towards the sky, trying to see the tops of the trees. They made him feel so little; as if he was a newborn staring up his mother’s legs. Shaking his head, he pushed himself to be brave. This wasn’t so bad! The Forest Queen had kept this territory safe, he had nothing to fear! With a toss of his head as if to convince himself, he let out a playful squeal before taking off into a gallop. His growing tail was held up towards the sky and his fuzzy mane bounced against his neck. Only when he spotted a stranger did he skid to a stop, is eyes staring wide and uncertainly towards the older male.
His father would not be scared of a stranger, so why should he? Bacardi brought himself up to try and appear taller before he walked over towards the stranger. “Hello” he greeted, his little boy voice a contradiction to the stallion he was trying to be. “Who are you?”
