Blood of my blood. The words are on the tip of her tongue but she can’t yet utter them. Evren has shown that she would be a good keeper of their family’s treasured phrase, which by now has become an heirloom. It isn’t that Scylla doesn’t trust Evren, more like she doesn’t yet trust herself to be good at the whole family thing. It’s been so long - more than a decade of her life - since she’s coexisted with family.
Still, her eyes are full of joy upon hearing her mother’s name fall from Evren’s lips. She never would have guessed that Orhan had mentioned Dany on top of his own parents, mostly because before meeting him, Scylla hadn’t realized he’d known about her mother. She still wonders what exactly El Aran had told Orhan about Dany; perhaps Evren will be able to enlighten her.
”That would be her,” she confirms, a little breathless at the realization that all her dreams may now be coming true. Hearing her own thoughts echoed in Evren’s voice tells her that this is right, that she and Evren were supposed to meet just as she and Orhan had. The difference is that she isn’t going to risk missing time with Evren.
”I felt that way for a long time, with your grandparents and then your father.” Her dark eyes turn contemplative. ”I eventually realized that dwelling on the past wasn’t doing me any good. Looking forward is definitely for the best.”
She smiles warmly. ”Catching up sounds like the best idea I’ve heard in years.” She can barely see Evren now that the sun has set, her vision reduced to her companion’s outline and the glint of her eyes. With a glance toward the sky, she continues, ”It’d probably be best to hold off until tomorrow, it’s been a long day. If you need to head home, feel free…I’ll follow in the morning.”
