Kestral is perhaps a good choice of stallion for a peak mare to befriend. There is no room for arrogant masculinity in a mind like his. He admires a mare for who she is and all she has to offer, just as he would a fellow stallion. Without a territory or herd to call his own, he is not out to collect mares like trophies on a shelf. If he approaches a mare, he approaches with genuine interest in her.
This is why he approaches now. This mare is no conquest to him. Even if she was, she would be a conquest already won upon their last encounter. He really does want to learn her name, and more.
Because he doesn't come to claim her, he doesn't understand her remark. "Should I fear you?" He wonders, in his faraway voice. This meeting today on the common grounds should give them no reason to quarrel, and no reason for either one to fear the other. Though fear is a feeling often lost to Kestral. He accepts each potential for bodily harm, or even death, as just another part of living. Someday, we will all become the earth, and there is nothing to fear in becoming one with all things.
