can you see me now?

He told her that he didn't know many details surrounding his father's death, only that he was killed and his mother fled. Illusion nodded, her eyes sad. "Well, I'm sorry for your loss. No foal should grow up without a parent." She knew many did, but she hated that for them. For her own, she hoped that in some ways, Kestrel might want to be a part of their life. If not, she would love the child for both of them and maybe some day she'd find a stallion to be their male role model. For a moment, the bay stallion's eyes grew distant, like he was deep in thought. Illusion left him to his thoughts but her ears pricked to attention when he said that his mother didn't know who would claim the Desert and and what they might do to him so she did what was safest.

Illusion had thought as much. She nodded in agreement. "She was a good mother and did the right thing for the safety of her child." When they spoke of another stallion and how he'd attacked Bahadir, she tilted her head in curiosity when the stallion said that it was safer for him to be here. She eyed him but there was no sarcasm or teasing in her eyes, mostly curiosity of his answer. "Are you scared of the stallion? I did not think stallions felt fear." Or admitted to it anyway. Pride was usually an epidemic when it came to the masculine species. When Bahadir looked toward the Desert, Illusion watched him with fascination, wondering what he was thinking. Would he go back some day or continue to stay here and avoid the other stallion? When he suddenly turned back to her, she straightened and swished her tail.

He asked about her and she snorted softly, tossing her mane with a smirk. "Hm, where to begin? My mother was a lovely herd mare, Mirage, and my father, her lead stallion, Dodger. My mother was very loving and sweet, very laid back. She was the anchor for the herd in a lot of ways, the calm presense that kept drama down in the herd. Dodger was getting older and I was one of the last foals born in our herd. He'd had a string of bad luck and had only fillies born for a few seasons so there were no stallions around my age. My mother sent me out to look for another herd when I became two so that I could find a stable herd and have children of my own. It was hard to leave them."

Her breath shortened as she thought of their sad faces when she left. She didn't know what she was walking into or how she was going to find other horses. She only knew that she couldn't let her parents down. Finally she sighed and looked off across the dunes. "I found a maiden herd and stayed with them for almost a year, just moving around and making friends. We came across a few bachelor stallions who made it a habit to trail our herd and steal members one by one. My friend, Abigail, thought it would be unsafe for me to stay after a while so she escorted me away from the herd one night and around their scouts. I hated to leave them but the bachelors trailed me and only by jumping into the water was I able to get away. That's how I found myself on the islands."

With a shrug, she shook her head. "I'm sorry, that was probably way more than you cared to hear. Pretty boring, right?"
