sent from the heavens above...

He had forgotten for a moment that Solaris' grandfather was the lead stallion of the Inlet. Come to think of it, he remembered seeing the stallion looking pretty beat up and downtrodden at the herd meeting. Seems his lead mare had turned on him for turning on her and allowing Xiomara to have the top mare perch. He didn't know the lead mare so he didn't have a real opinion on the matter between them. Seems Xiomara had a way of creating an impression with pretty much any stallion she met and Warsaw had fallen prey as well. He knew he'd seen Warsaw wondering the territory, still trying to talk to Vita Nova, so maybe that meant he wasn't with Xiomara when she left. Angel still worried about her being out there on her own, though he knew she was more than capable of taking care of herself. Not like you could do anything anyway, weakling.

The bay paint seemed to know her words would have an affect on him with the way she searched his face for a response. He was sure to give her one too, not able to stop the sharp inhale or the agitated swing of his tail. He'd never felt so tense before, so ready for action. He knew it wasn't her fault that Rougaru had sent her there, but did Galexia have to go with her? Couldn't she have asked if Rougaru could watch her or even ask to send her to Angel? He knew it would do no good to ask so he held his tongue. Galexia was there now so he just had to worry about getting her out as quickly as possible. His daughter couldn't grow up there. She just couldn't. Too afraid she'll find out what strong stallion looks like and come back to compare you? He grit his teeth at the voice, anger making him glare at the ground since he couldn't take his anger out on the voice, though he couldn't stop a single hoof from stomping the ground in his anger.

At least, Solaris agreed with him that Galexia shouldn't grow up there. He was afraid she would put up a fight about it. She said as much but then her voice trailed off and the buckskin's brow furrowed in question. Why was there a but? There shouldn't be, not about this. The mare glanced around as if looking for eavesdroppers before she looked back at Angel and she looked nervous if anything. What was she nervous about? Had something already happened? His muscles spasmed in retaliation and it took everything he had not to leap forward and make his way there now to retrieve his daughter. Finally, Solaris spoke, and her words weren't what he expected. Raider? He tilted his head, one brow lifting in question. As tears started to form in her eyes, Angel's expression softened and he reached out his muzzle to touch her cheek softly, a reassuring gesture, wanting her to know that even though he didn't know what was wrong, everything would be okay. He would make sure of it.

She said it was time she explained things to him and he felt his head draw back, his gaze wary now cause he had a feeling he wasn't going to like what he was about to hear. She said he should know what she did to him and he snorted softly, his ears folding back. What if he didn't want to hear? But he held his tongue, cause he knew deep inside that he did want to know. Brace yourself, sweetheart. Things are about to get ugly. He pricked his ears again to listen attentively as she told him about a mare she had feelings for and that she had used him as a distraction. That didn't surprise him as much as he thought it would. He'd never thought much of himself so he had questioned her attentions to him from the very beginning, figuring there had to be a good reason. This made sense, somehow. He nodded, encouraging her to continue.

The next part surprised him more if anything, as she admitted to caring for him more and thinking of the mare less. Then she said she went to find more and found a stallion named Raider. Angel didn't know the name but he had that niggling feeling in the back of his mind again, a reminder of that smell that always clung to her coat when she came back to the herd. Must be his. The stallion snorted again, as if trying to rid his nostrils of the smell. The mare went on, saying how she was attracted to Raider and he was strong. She didn't have to say the words for Angel to know that she meant he was everything in body that Angel wasn't. He knew he wasn't built for strength or fighting. He didn't have the personality for it either. In a way, that made sense too. Of course it does. Why wouldn't she seek out a real stallion to give her attention? You were just a temporary bandaid to her trying to get over a mare, of all things. She's never thought of you as a stallion.

He glanced down for a moment, trying to hide his pain as he pawed at the ground. Yes, Solaris found a real stallion who was everything he wasn't. She kept going back to him. That was easy enough to piece together. He glanced back up only when the paint said that she was pregnant with Galexia and came home to be a family with him. At least he didn't have to doubt that his daughter was indeed his, though he never had a doubt just from looking at her. Somehow, he'd always known Galexia couldn't be anyone else's but his. Looking at Solaris, he hated that she was crying and he still wanted to comfort her, but his body was frozen, wanting to hear every last bit of what she had to say, no matter how much it hurt. She then said that she wanted to stay friends with Raider and she went to see him in the Lagoon.

Angel clenched his jaw as more pieces slid into place. Raider lived in the Lagoon, the very place Rougaru had sent her and his own daughter to. It was beginning to make sense. Raider must have talked his lead stallion into trading for her. Rougaru was apparently always up for trades. Just look at how fast he sent Angel himself packing. The slender stallion's anger started to grow and fester. It directed itself at Raider for breaking up his family and indirectly endangering his daughter. Now it was also directed at Rougaru for allowing his own blood to fall into the hands of a bachelor herd. What kind of father does that? Angel was okay with himself being sent off. He was nothing to Rougaru and even though he wasn't a fighter, he could still survive. But to send Solaris and a yearling filly to the Lagoon? Angel looked away again as the fire burned in his eyes. He didn't want Solaris to see him like this. The hurt from her words and the anger from the actions of those around him collided in a storm of hurricane proportions inside of him, yearning for release.

He couldn't help but flinch a little when Solaris mentioned that her grandfather was raping the mare, Ylva. Somewhere in his mind, he compartmentalized that for later, something else he could try to correct, try to do SOMETHING about, if it was necessary. He didn't recall seeing a mare named Ylva at the herd meeting so maybe she wasn't even here anymore with Warsaw. Maybe she already found her freedom. His muscles spasmed again in hurt when Solaris said that she couldn't just be friends with Raider, but that bitter taste of hope lifted in his chest when she said that having Galexia changed things for her and again, she wanted a family with him. He remembered their happy days with his newborn daughter. They truly were a family in those days. Angel bringing Xiomara to Paradise was a turning point apparently. Solaris got jealous, which he remembered vividly. She yelled at him and ran into the ocean.

Apparently she went to Raider. He flinched again, even though he remembered well that stench on her coat again when she finally came back to talk to him. She said that she spent the night with the other stallion, that she let him breed her. Angel's gaze snapped back up to hers, tears glimmering in their brown depths, though he wasn't sure if she would see the pain or the anger at this point. They both seemed to mix like deadly chemicals inside of him, churning and seeking destruction. "That's why you wanted me to breed you, too." He whispered the words and they broke a little as he said them. He knew there was something she wasn't telling him that day when she was so desperate for him to mount her. He'd finally done it just to make her happy, hoping to maybe if they had another child, they could fix things. But it was a set up all along. His chest tightened and he inhaled sharply again, this time because he felt short of breath, like he couldn't breathe.

He had to look away from her again, listening still as she admitted she didn't know the baby's father. His whole body went tight as a cord, his teeth gritted so tightly that he was starting to wonder if he would break any by that alone. Solaris wasn't done though, saying she wanted to fix things but Rougaru traded him and sent her to the Lagoon. Even the way she said it, that she was traded off "to be with Raider" was like another slap to the face. Like she accepted it, that she was okay with it. She said that she loved him, this other stallion, and Angel stomped the ground harder, his tail acting like a whip and swatting at his own flanks. He was barely listening by the time she said she still loved him too. Even when she said she loved him more, he snorted and stomped again, beating the ground beneath him as he wanted to beat Raider at that moment.

She kept going like a proud mom defending her child as she said Raider was strong and had status. Angel's ears laced flat to his skull as he took it all in. He didn't want to hear it anymore. Did she actually expect him to respect this other stallion, the one who he now knew was watching over his own daughter? Raider is strong and ranked and great. Three for three better than you. It was overwhelming, all these feelings yanking at his insides and tearing him up. He only looked back at the bay and white mare when she said that she's seen Raider do odd things, that he has a temper and scares her. Now his snort was more forced and angry as he took a step toward her. "Yet you left our daughter with him?" He tried to make it sound neutral, curious even but he knew irritation leaked through. Hwo could she leave Galexia with someone like that?

She told him that Galexia needed him and that she wanted him to take care of Galexia and the child she was carrying. He didn't like the way she said it, like she knew she didn't have long or something. He took another step toward her, his voice more calm and determined than it had probably ever been. "Nothing's going to happen to you. Galexia needs you too. So does this child. They need their mother." Wow, suck it all up, Buttercup. It's going to be a bumpy ride from here. The buckskin stood there a moment watching her features, really trying to read her. Finally he sighed. "I know I'm no dream boat, Solaris. I'm not built for battle. I just wanted to live my life and lie low. That's all I ever wanted....until you. I was just surviving, going through the moves of living, until you breathed life into me. You and Galexia gave me a reason to want more. Sure, I wasn't planning on climbing the ladder to be someone's second, but I wanted to be with my family, to be what you needed me to be. I would have done anything for you, Solaris, anything." He looked away for a moment as tears threatened again. What a crybaby. "I just needed you to tell me, to talk to me. I just needed you...and you were never there." He kept his gaze on the ground as he said it, his body slumping in defeat.
