Re(6): U.S. long watched Soleimani, but feared risks of a strike

When all is said and done, I guess the biggest possible drawback to our military's killing an important member of the Iranian government is the possibility of this drawing us into another lengthy war in the Mideast.
But, if the experts are correct when they say that the Ayatollah's prime concern is the preservation of his regime, I think it is more likely that he will reply with a response which will not result in an out-and-out war with the U.S..
This also assumes that Trump has a follow-on strategy that will not get us into such a war when that response comes from Iran.
