live life to the fullest

She woke to cries ringing out in the Forest and immediately she was put on edge. What was going on? Shaking her head, the black mare started running through the Forest, wondering if someone needed help. But when she came upon the group of horses fighting and recognized the large gray stallion, Warsaw, she gasped in panic and shuffled back. What was he doing here? And why was he attacking others? She didn't recognize the other stallions with him but none smelled like the Forest and they all seemed to be on the same side. What was going on? Was there an attack on the Forest? Her blood grew cold at teh very thought as she spun around on her haunches and launched away from the conflict. She hated to hear all the screams of desperation behind her and her heart hurt for the mares involved, but she knew there was nothing she could do for them. She wasn't a fighter. Evren had told her to help watch the herd and let them know if she saw anything amiss so she did the only things she could think of.

She threw her head up as she ran, letting out a loud cry. Danger! Attackers in the Forest! She screamed as loud and as long as she could, hoping Evren and Persephone heard her so they could gather able fighter to take the stallions on. She was no warrior so she rushed to find safety, and to see if there was something else she could do. Maybe other horses would need help finding safety from all the fighting. Maybe foals would need shelter. She tried to focus on what she could do, not what she couldn't. As she was running, she came across a familiar scent and slowed, her brain processing that Maeve was nearby. The poor mare didn't need to be involved, nor be anywhere near stallions like Warsaw. Creed thought she could even smell his faint scent in the air. Had he done something to Maeve? Her chest tightened at the thought as she turned and raced toward where the mare was, eager to lay her eyes on her and see if the other female needed help.

When she came across Maeve, there was already another mare nearby but she didn't smell of the Forest. Creed hesitated for only a second before stepping between Maeve and her foal and the other, shielding them from view. The golden dappled mare didn't look hostile so Creed didn't pin her ears. Rather she let them prick toward the other in wary curiosity as she spoke. "I'm Creed of the Forest. Who are you and why are you here? I apologize for the forwardness, but I'm sure you've noticed the strangers on our island causing mischief and we have to be cautious. Are you friend or foe?" Creed figured that would be the most important thing. She needed to know if she would have to fight or not. She might be abysmal at it, but one glance at the frightened mare behind her with a newborn foal at her side and Creed knew she couldn't just leave them to their fate.

She had come upon Maeve when she first made it to the shores of the Forest and she felt responsible for her in a way. Sure, she was a member of the Forest and so she was Persephone's responsibility if anything, but Creed was sure her leader had plenty of other things she needed to pay attention to right now, like Warsaw rampaging through their island. Creed could at least handle this much and make sure Maeve and her new child stayed safe. Only when she was sure the golden dapple mare held no threat did she slowly turn her head toward Maeve and lower her head to show she had no intentions to harm them. She kept her distance, knowing well the protective nature of a mother. "Hello, again. Remember me, Creed? I will stay here with you, if that's okay. I will keep you safe." She remembered the mare repeating that one word after Persephone had said it when they first met. Maybe she would understand that part anyway. Safe.
