Well, so far, that Chinese have occupied and fortified certain territories formerly claimed by the Philippines, and have met no response. The old saying, "Communists probe with bayonets, until they strike steel instead of mush" seems to hold true. If the Chinese are allowed to maintain and increase their hold in the South China Sea, it will be a bad lookout for the rest of maritime nations.
