We found each other in the dark

Through the black starless water,
And the cold lonely air. On the rock restless seas.

It felt good to be in Requiem's company, like a familiar and soft security blanket. But even the comfort he brought her felt different now. Strained, even. So much time had passed since the two of them were alone in the Bay. It was beginning to feel like a lifetime ago. So much had changed. Tavas had spent seasons - multiple seasons - with Bjorn and his herd now. The Ridge was what was now familiar, whether she liked it or not. It wasn't Requiem's fault that so much time had passed. But it wasn't hers either.

It wasn't like Tavas felt defeated and finally gave in to Bjorn. But as more time passed, the grullo stallion did have a way of wearing down her prickly defenses. He wasn't so bad, she was beginning to think. She liked the mares he had accumulated. She liked the different landscape of Atlantis. She was expanding her horizons in that way, she guessed. The palomino mare felt more independent because of it. She didn't have Vita Nova or Warsaw around to make decisions for her anymore. She was left alone, in a strange new place. She had been left to her own devices, to surmise her own interests and feelings. And it wasn't half-bad.

Still, she was shocked when she felt Requiem tug free of her embrace, his demeanor shifting from guilt and melancholy to something much more stiff and defensive. Her gold-flecked eyes narrowed as she searched his face for answers. She nickered warmly to him as he spoke again, trying to draw him back to her. But it didn't seem to be of much use.

"I understand, Requiem. It's just... so much time has passed. Am I supposed to stop living my life? And just wait for someone else to fix it for me? I don't know if I can do that anymore." She said, her gaze flicking to the grass between their hooves, afraid of hurting his feelings even more. She sighed heavily, and flicked her wavy blonde tail over her haunches nervously.

She smiles weakly when he describes the Cove. He seemed happy to be there. But what he shared next equally surprised her. A father? She felt a tinge of jealousy shoot through her, and a sudden heat rise to cheeks. "Oh." She said softly, her voice trailing off as she registered this new development. "Congratulations, I suppose."

Luckily, the conversation shifted to the Inlet and Tavas tried to focus her thoughts on that. Her heart sunk when Requiem revealed some troubling news about her mother. A shiver ran down the length of her spine. "Oh my god." She said in a hushed tone, her eyes wide and stricken now. "Thank you for telling me." She said, reaching out to bump him on the shoulder once more.

"I'll come back to Tinuvel one day, Requiem." She said purposely. "But I don't expect you to wait around for me. It sounds like your life is moving on too."
