Wondering about the effect that a big market drop would have on 401k's, I checked on the internet to determine how many 401k's are heavily involved in the stock market.
According to the below-linked artilce, two thirds of 401k's are heavily based on stock market equities.
However, the article went on to say that a temporary downturn in the market shouldn't be a worry to most folks with 401k's; this , because the market would likely rebound before they are directly affected.
The article even went on to say that a market downturn could even be considered a "stock sale".
However, the article didn't address the effect of a 1929-type market crash.
It also didn't address those retirees who are already drawing down on their 401k's.
