bring me back to life...

Fear was like a constant taste on her tongue from the moment Ruger was called to battle. She had held Ryder to her side, tears glistening in her eyes as Ruger went head to head with the clearly older stallion. She knew before the words were even spoken that her love was beat and she would be chased away from the only place she'd ever felt safe. She couldn't stop the cry from leaving her lips, screaming Ruger's name even as she placed herself between Warsaw and her son. Being a mother had brought a new fierce nature of her own to life and she used it now to bare her teeth and snap at the stallion any time he dared to get too close to Ryder. Ryder clung to her legs in confusion, asking why they were leaving his dad and when they would be coming back. He didn't understand who the stallion was who was herding them into the water or why his dad wasn't coming to get them.

Around the tears in her eyes and the sobs in her throat, Evanescence coaxed him on, making sure she kept the swimming pace where he could easily keep up and any time he tired, she would slow down and held hold him up so he could take a break. Her gaze cut into Warsaw like a knife, hating him for tearing her away from the love of her life. What gave him the right? He seemed only amused by the smell of her fear and when they reached the Inlet, she shook out her coat and continued to place herself between Warsaw and her son, warning him off with squeals and snapping jaws. The whites of her eyes rolled, betraying her fear as she was sure anyone within a hundred feet could smell it. She was terrified. What would the stallion want with her? Could she truly protect her son? And then as if to throw another wrench into it, Warsaw disappeared, only to come back with a familiar face. Requiem. Evanescence stared on in shock, tears still glistening in her eyes as she pushed Ryder behind her legs and braced herself to face the stallion she still cared for, the stallion who was one of the first to reach out to her, to start to gain her trust.

She remembered well how badly she hurt him when she confessed her feelings for Ruger to him. He was a stallion of his word and let her go back to him but she had a feeling that might not happen twice. Not with Warsaw in the mix. She listened as the older stallion spoke to Requiem, telling him to take her back and "enjoy her." A shiver ran down Evanescence's spine. She was sure she could guess what that meant. Gasping, she flattened her ears and turned her gaze to Requiem, a part of her wanting to plead with him to find the heart she knew he still had, while another fought the urge to tear apart any who thought to come too close to her or Ryder.
