it could have been a nightmare

the wind whistles and howls in her ears. she has them alert, flicked forward to catch the unmistakeable sign of someone approaching.

to any wandering eye she may seem helpless, perhaps she would even paint the deceiving picture of a mare not well taught to stand up for herself: her body is soft, with a swan-like neck and round shoulders. her face is sharp, but dished and delicate; perhaps an homage to some desert-bred ancestor that she was unaware of. her mane and tail were long and silken, and you could tell that she took care of it endlessly. it would do no good to look homely when your life depended on catching the eyes of others.

and she played the part, too.

when the golden painted stallion stepped forward through the branches her whole countenance changed. the ice of her gaze melted and fell way to warmth; her posture turned from defensive and menacing to demure and docile. she looked up at him from beneath wispy white lashes, a sweetening smile curled on her pink lips. she was not unaware of his own beauty, though she pushed it aside for the time being.

"what gave it away?" her laughter sounds like wind chimes on the breeze. "no, i have no one to go home to, i'm afraid." her neck arched as she reached out to greet him, her nostrils flared and her voice soft. "i am desdemona. it is a pleasure to meet you, roheryn de mikhail."

desdemona
five years. spanish mustang. gold cream champagne dun sabino. fifteen hands. of nowhere.
