There was a certain satisfaction the painted stallion felt, when Jabari watched Rougaru's face contort into rage. It was still unclear if his blows made impact on the silver bay stallion, but just his attempted coup was enough to light a fire inside the Paradise stallion's gut. That was also enough for Jabari to feel satisfied.
Jabari was too distracted to notice the painted mare until she was physically upon him. He thrusted his head high in the air over his withers to save his face from her onslaught of her bites. But the second she spoke, Jabari knew who she was. Her childish insults were lost on Jabari. He bared back with two rows of blunt teeth, and pushed forward against her, hoping to use his wide chest and shoulders to knock her back a few feet. While Jabari had seriously considered and even threatened to attack Celestria, he had no intention of maiming this mare in any significant way. His defenses were merely that, attempts to bat her away long enough so he could slip into the next throng of horses battling alongside them. Perhaps Jabari would land a bite or two of his own against Monster along the way.
The son of Shamwari's eyes flitted to the trees as he watched the roan mare, Persephone, take off into the Forest. Only then did he realize Warsaw was missing from the gaggle now, and shortly after, Evren peeled off after her. Jabari snorted as he watched them disappear into the deeper thicket. But his heart somersaulted in his chest when he watched Rougaru stalk off after them a few minutes later. The painted stallion issued a shrill call out into the night then, hoping his voice would ring enough familiarity with the Forest mares for them to hear it and heed his warning. They would be evenly matched, when they caught up with Warsaw.
Jabari held is breath as he maneuvered through the chaos, his blue-eyed gaze searching tirelessly for the familiar copper-colored hide of his father.
