She yearned for the freedom to run the free lands and swim where she wanted but her mother told her that she would have to wait until spring, when she was yearling. Couldn't that come soon enough? Snorting in her frustrations, she raced through the jungle, tugging her way through vines that gripped at her shoulders and kicked out at branches that swung too close. Her body was already filled with scratches and scrapes from her many races through the thicker parts of the jungle but she didn't mind. It was just obstacles on the way to her real destination. She had a lot more free time now that her mother was giving her more rein. As she grew older, she didn't really need Monster's milk anymore so she could wander further away and graze when she got hungry. She didn't know many of the other horses in the herd though and that bothered her a little. She wanted friends around her own age and someone to talk to. Her mother went off to war and so did her father. When her mother came back, she had a lot of new wounds and scars and Medusa was almost jealous of them. How could she get marks like that? But Monster warned her to steer clear of the water for now until it was safe. Didn't she know that Medusa was fearless? She could kick anyone who got too close! Of course, her mother didn't see it that way but she'd like to see them try to take her! Snorting, she tossed her head with a squeal and bounded off across the shore, splashing in the water and sending up droplets as she kicked and bucked. One ear flicked around her as she played, listening for anyone to approach.
