i'll never let you go

He knew well what season was approaching and part of him wanted to pirate Talien away so no others could dare to lay eyes on her. He had to remind himself that she was a herd mare now and no longer untouchable as she had been in her father's herd. she probably had suitors left and right lining up, right along with the stallion who fathered her child. The thought brought to life a deep ache inside him that he was afraid would never fully heal, but there was nothing he could do about it. He wasn't here and she had to move on. She shouldn't be kept from the simple pleasures like a family just because he didn't find her fast enough. He would force himself to be happy for her even if he silently hated himself for not getting here faster.

The name of her daughter was beautiful, Amber Rose. He could just imagine her now. If she was anything like her mother, she would be taking his breath away in just a glance as well, but his heart would never belong to anyone as it did to Talien. When he searched her eyes, he had a feeling she was hiding something from him, something she didn't dare to say out loud, and yet he couldn't bring himself to pressure her, at least not yet. He wouldn't ruin their reunion on whatever dark secrets she chose to keep to herself for now. They had plenty of time to hash that out later. He wondered if she still remembered that day that he almost killed another colt just for goading her. Would she always have that image in the back of her mind and secretly think him a monster? She had never looked at him as such but he thought of himself so why not?

When he told her that he wanted to prove he deserved her, he thought he saw tears forming at the edges of her eyes and a soft whimpering nicker fell from his lips as he felt the urge to wipe them away. He hated the idea of her crying. It tore his heart in two. When she pressed her muzzle to his, he let out a soft sigh of contentment and closed his eyes for a moment, just breathing her in and exhilarating in her touch. He never thought he'd get to feel that again so it felt like a miracle. Her words made him smile and he slowly re-opened his eyes. "You are too good for me, Talien. You always have been." He murmured in defeat as his eyes searched hers. When she pulled back, he worried at first that he'd hurt her feelings, but then she said that she always wanted him and he felt his heart soar.

He felt like a million bucks, like the richest stallion in the world. A small chuckle left his lips at the impish smirk on her own. "I'm sure your father would have loved to hear those words." He knew well how her father despised the time they spent together. He was just a silly colt, a bad influence on her future, but he was sure her father knew how he really felt about the stallion's daughter. As she pushed herself against him, he burrowed his nose in her mane, memorizing her scent to memory like it may be the last time. His lips played in her soft locks, tugging at them softly even as he let out a groan of pleasure when she pressed her head under his chin. It fit perfectly, like a puzzle piece coming together. At her suddenly word to stay, he felt his whole body still, his ears flicking like he wasn't sure he'd heard her right.

Then she said it again and he felt his eyes brighten like fireflies as a smile tugged across his lips. He nuzzled deeper into her mane and let out another sigh. "I'm never leaving you again, Talien. The devil himself couldn't drag me away."
