Aim for the Top

The filly was definitely hard to keep up with, but he grew more determined with every step. This was his first real time getting out of sight of his mother and maybe that was part of the reason he'd become so codependent on her. It wasn't on purpose though. He knew she had some past darkness that made her that way and she just feared that something would happen. He was her first child but he hoped to grow big and strong and show his mother that there was nothing to fear anymore, that he could defend himself and even defend her if necessary. Though he was sure they would find their way back to their father soon enough and he would protect Evanescence. Ryder knew how they felt about each other. He could see it every time they looked at each other.

The filly only seemed amused at his slack in stride, giggling and tossing her head before they got to the stream. She told him that this would be her first winter but her mom said the winter can be harsh and cold. He snorted and flicked his ears back. "I hope it doesn't get too cold in the Thicket." He was assuming he and his mother would be back home before winter hit. When he called out to her after she took off again, she giggled again, spinning back to apologize. He ducked his head, suddenly sheepish for asking her to wait. She said that she'd never met any other foals yet and her mother was boring. He snorted softly and glanced toward his own mother's silhouette before looking back at Aiyana. "I knew a colt in the Thicket, Quillon. But never met a female before now. My mom's not boring. She just doesn't want to run and play like I do." He admitted.

She said they could walk and he pricked his ears and lifted his head, hope shining in his eyes. She would slow down for him? He followed her along the path, though he hesitated and swallowed, his ears flicking back when she said the coyotes like to use the path. He shook his head vehemently. "Don't worry. I won't come near here at night." He told himself that he would warn his mother about that too. When they got to the outcropping, he stopped with a short gasp, his legs shaking a little as he glanced over the edge. His gaze swept back to Aiyana as she said she liked to look at the ocean. "Doesn't it scare you a little, being this high up and this close to the edge?" He watched her curiously.
