Falls

She had remained in the Falls, a wraith in the mists as the warmth of the autumn started to die around her.The misty sprays from the falling water was slowly starting to frost over the mosses and plants that had given her comfort and places to hide. Soon, it would be too cold and too exposed to remain here. She would be too alone.

For that brief second she had seen Ruger and she had felt as though everything would be okay. They would find their daughter, and she would be back with a family for the first time in years. That feeling of being whole and complete would be hers yet again. Just as fate would have it, she was once again wandering alone in the falls with the promise of the love of a man, and his protection, but alone to ponder what that might mean. As she stepped over the cold moist stones, her body shivered from something other than the season’s chill. This was the life she had come to live.

Her songs had died in on her lips as she continued to move silently through the peaceful landscape. She could not think of the melody and she could not claim to have a harmony. Instead, her dark eyes watched as the sun started to set and the temperatures of the world caused fog to twist among the river’s mist. Moisture settled on her roan hide, darkening it to a night sky.

Ears perked forward at the sound of a deep voice echoing off the stones. For a second she hesitated. Her history with stallions on these islands had not granted her the instinct to trust. Stealing herself, she stepped forward, always resisting the urge to take flight. It is not so bad of a home… she insisted quietly, just loud enough for him to hear her over the quiet falls. There are better though, if you do not like the quiet loneliness.
