With all due respect to Robbo, direct entry loadmasters have been graduating from RAAF training since 2014.
From my knowledge there is one former gunship crewman still serving in the RAAFR and that is John Pawliw.
John and I both served together at 35SQN and 5 Aviation Regiment in the late 80s and early 90s.
I fully agree with the comments about RAAF instructors of today. They are ill qualified to make statements about 9SQNs well documented achievements with both gunships and slicks.
As one who joined 9SQN in 1977 as an Airframe/Flight Fitter, and later with 35SQN as a loadmaster, I felt proud to work with members who had served in Vietnam and beyond.
They laid the foundation stones for us who followed in the ‘Bushranger’ tradition.
