she wouldn’t expect either of them to show her any sensitivity or concern over the tender state of her…mental health and happiness… any show of such concern would likely be vehemently rejected. her woundedness made lashing out a knee-jerk reaction… but the mare had convinced herself that even without those wounds, she would be as sullen and prickly as she was now. it was hard to tell if she was right. the colt eyes them with an air of disappointed frustration at their paltry answers and the flash of a smirk almost lights dredge’s features at that dismay…his hopefulness is not easily discharged though, and before long he regards them with fresh curiousity, having announced his own name and some other babble. son of the peak? what does that even mean? she doesn’t have to muse long on that question when, to her own dismay, the dun beside her begins to blather on. that would only encourage the painted youth who she mostly ignores… when the dun jerks his head toward her accusingly, suggesting the peak might be someplace she would belong, the painted grullo mare can only press her dark ears further into the tangled mess of mane at her crown (if possible) and snort at his assumption. she spits with resentment, “i’m quickly realizing the only place where someone like me belongs is well away from idiots like you” despite this bitter pronouncement she still listens on with veiled curiosity. dredge gathers that the dun had left for some time, only returning recently. today is not the day for restraint apparently and before she can stop herself she speaks again,”why did you bother coming back anyway?” she means the question more as an insult than a means of gathering information… but it isn’t until a few seconds pass that she realizes she has only invited further conversation. |
