can you see me now?

When the new claiming call rang out through the dunes, Illusion felt her heart tighten in her chest, both in happiness and sadness all at the same time. She had missed her friend Shaydowfax when she was taken from the Dunes and often thought about her and young Sauron, wondering how they were doing. She knew Shaydowfax was capable though and that mare wouldn't be broken, no matter what. It seemed she was right in thinking that. She felt energy vibrate through her, wanting to go to her buckskin friend and see how she was faring. Did she bring Sauron with her? Illusion would find out soon enough. But at the same time, her heart ached because she knew from the other call that soon followed that Bahadir would no longer be here. He was going to the Badlands on the other part of the island for refuge until he could find for the Dunes again.

She had gotten to know Bahadir and felt for him. He was a good stallion and a good leader. He was the father of the unborn child she carried and she wanted more than ever to see what it would be like to have a child's father in their life for once, something Raptor was deprived of with her own father. Illusion knew she could choose to leave the Dunes and go to the Badlands to hold out with Bahadir. It wouldn't be a big swim like it was when Shaydowfax asked her to come to the Cove. She didn't like the idea that it felt like she would be choosing sides, no matter what she did. Her skin quivered as she stared at the sand for a moment, wishing there was an easy answer. She knew Bahadir wouldn't hold it against her if she stayed here. At least she hoped he wouldn't. He knew this was her home, and Raptor's home.

Plus she could use this time to see Shaydowfax and catch up with her friend. Did she really have to pick sides in a war she wanted no part of? She cared for both of them. Snorting, she decided with a shake of her head that she could at least go see Shaydowfax and decide at some point, but it didn't have to be right now. She needed to see her friend. She trotted across the dunes, her round sides swinging until the buckskin mare came into view. Illusion gave out a whinny of greeting and tossed her head up and down in excitement, her eyes bright as she trotted up to meet her. Reaching out her muzzle, she breathed in Shaydowfax' familiar scent, known to her and yet now it housed other more foreign scents of other islands and other horses.

"Hello again, my friend. How have you been?" She noted vaguely that Sauron wasn't at her side but he might be here later. As if to read her thoughts, she snapped her head around at the pounding of hooves, only to see Raptor's gangly form galloping up on them. Tossing her head, the darker filly gave a nicker of greeting and trotted up to them, offering her own muzzle as well before she glanced around more subtly and raised a brow at Shaydowfax. "Where's Sauron?" Illusion could read the disappointment in her voice. She had been without a lot of playmates lately and she was sure her daughter wanted someone around her own age to run the dunes with.
