He was doing his best to indulge her free spirit, wondering how she would get along with the other mares of the herd. She reminded him of Harlequin a little, but in some ways, she seemed more amiable. As they moved up further into the desert, he stayed abck to let her set the pace, wanting her to take in the herd lands without any expectations. She found the first oasis on her own and went down to take a drink, her head lifting to greet Geneva and Zubeia as they came up to introduce themselves. Mazarine kept a friendly posture as they approached and Cain took hope from that, since he'd seen a fire in Harlequin's eyes when she was around other mares. Maybe Mazarine would be more prone to get along with the other mares. He hoped so. He wanted his herd to be united, to be friends, more like family than just a number of horses who lived here.

She gave her name and said they could call her Maz. Cain's ears pricked, letting them talk to get to know each other. She confirmed that she wasn't lost, that he brought her and he gave Geneva a little smirk from behind her as if to say "See? I'm not so useless." Not that Geneva had ever called him that or anything. It was his own insecurities talking. He still hadn't gotten over losing Primrose and he wanted to prove to himself more than anyone else that he was still a lead stallion in his prime, still someone who could protect his herd and build one. Maz's eyes swept across the desert landscape and Cain remained silent for a little while, letting her take it all in. Finally she said it'll do and he scowled thoughtfully but nodded. He wasn't expecting a great compliment or anything. He just hoped she could be happy here.

Then she turned back to the other mares and asked about them and Cain pricked his ears, listening as Geneva welcomed her and told her story. His gaze went to Zubeia next, hoping to reassure her that she can speak too but all she did was ask what the mare wanted to know. He gave a soft snort and his gaze went back to Mazarine. "Unless you need anything else, I can leave you to get acquainted with Geneva and Zubeia. I'll be around." He said with a small smirk and a wink before he turned and trotted back toward the borders.
