Perhaps there was a logic in what he said, but either by her own stubborn inability to cope with change or understand how to roll with the punches, Tsillah remained not sure what was meant by such a statement. A name was a name and nothing more, belying nothing but the tag given to an individual. Each living being was different in some way but she was different in a way that made walking and existing in this world seem more a chore. She knew it was at least, a relief, she knew the common tongue well enough. She’d been a sponge as a child, readily absorbing it all.
A saving grace for her life now.
And she listens with a calm but concerned gaze, feeling unsure. He extends an invitation then, and Tsillah balks at it. Her head rises, light eyes lighting with her deep insecurity. Curiosity was there amid her fear and not sure. Was this step away from the forward path the way? Was it the actual path, had it come around?
She blinks.
“I don’t know what it is to exist alongside others. How does it … work,” she speaks, but it is not a question and more a strange flicker of indecision rippling through her head. The names he speaks are just that, names. It felt overwhelming to her, the idea of settling herself into the corner, making a place.
The thought of stopping makes her throat close for a moment.
“I… am curious, I cannot deny. But what if I get there, and it is not anything? My companion has been solitude all my life. What if I cannot become a part, if I am unable to make a … home,” even the word is alien to her, “Will you allow me to leave in peace, Solomon?”
And she scrutinises him as she asks this question. She would, at any rate, find a way to leave if need be, but Tsillah would follow him for now. Perhaps he was the path she’d been looking for, and the others.
Perhaps not.
