He could sense her distrust. It seemed suspicion and maybe even anger were replacing fear as her ears swiveled back and forth, toward Sylens and then away again. He had figured out the connection between his comment and her talk of Hades and Persephone, and he was having fun using that information to tease her, but he knew it would be short-lived. Her frustration was less fun than her shock (or maybe he was just not in the mood for anything less than fear) and he knew he would grow bored soon. He would come clean when that time came, but he intended to continue exercising control in other ways. Sylens had means to make others fear him, outside of convenient lies.

”That information will cost you,” he purred, luring here closer, inching backward as she tentatively stepped forward. She never got close enough to touch, which was fine. Sylens just wanted to see if she was really as pretty in the darkness as she had been in the moonlight.

She was.

The celestial paint splashed across her body seemed to glow on its own, even in the shade of the dense trees. Her hair was spun stardust. Sylens did not care about women, but he wanted the pretty ones like a child wants so many toys.

Why should I trust you? she asked, and the spotted red stallion chuckled deep in his throat. ”Oh, I never said you should trust me,” he growled. ”In fact, it is probably wise not to. After all, I am Hades, and you will be my Persephone.” He began to circle her, his head snaked low. His body language expressed assertion over her, though he knew he could not lay a valid claim. Sylens owned no land and expressed dominance over no herd. But he was cocky enough to try anyway. She was just too pretty to let go.
