On The Hills...(Glenna)

EMBER

This was is it. She could feel it. She could feel it under her dark hooves as she stepped out of the rough surf. This was the place she had been looking for. All those seasons ago, she felt the beginnings of change in her breast. She had ignored it. Weeks had gone by as the stars and moon peered down at her. Their intensity had started to look deep into her being. The stars had seeped into and controlled her nights, and it was the storms that shook her days.

Lightening flashed through the skies on that fateful day. She watched fearlessly from the cliffs of her home as the rain turented down, turning her bay hide a dark bloody red. Still, she stood and watched. The light led her away, creating a path through the sky and calling her forward. There was a single glance back, a call lost in the thunder, and she was gone.

Each step she took, she felt the pull more and more. Night after night she looked up to the all seeing entities, breathing in their guidance and knowing they would not lead her wrong. Though she felt wrong, with every step she took and felt a little more right. When she came across Glenna, she felt the first click. They traveled together for a year. Each following the signs that would bring them to what they were looking for, knowing something was calling to them both.

At last. Here. Now. Ember felt another click. An ear twitched to Glenna, wondering if she felt it, too. This was almost there, but still not completely right. The mare huffed into the sand and picked her feet up to a canter. She knew they were so close, she needed to know what was still missing. Her ears perked forward at a noise in the distance. She looked over her shoulder and called, this time a beckoning instead of farewell. There was something this way.

Ember followed the pounding in her heart that soon echoed the roar of the falls. She stepped lightly through the lush grasses, summoned forward. As she looked over the falls she was reminded of the thunder that shook her soul that night. Her heart ached as she looked at the beautiful falls. They were so right, but still it was wrong.

We are so close, Glenna. Can you feel it? She grinned knowingly. Can you see it? Her voice turned to gentle teasing, knowing her friend’s senses were different than her own. Still there was a hitch in her tones. Desperation was starting to sink in. After a year of searching, they had been led here, she needed to know if her friend felt the same. They needed to know what was missing.
