you call me out upon the waters

Keen green eyes watch carefully in the night. Dusk has long past and the only thing casting shadows this evening are starkly illuminated by the moon. N.asa had ventured to the Falls to escape the hot temperatures of the Desert for the moment. Her time there had been spent briefly there after Cain had offered his home as a temporary place not long ago. The ebony mare slinks in the shadows, placing each hoof with care as to not disturb the sandy earth below. N.asa has not had the pleasure of being on the islands for long. Her recollection of how she came to this place is beside her. Memories long past are painful, surpressed for the moment. A shuffle nearby averts her gaze to the turbulent sea as another emerges from its murky waters. Slowly, she recoils deep into the tree line, watching quietly. The moon reveals the figures splashed coat, a deep soot color. He pauses for a moment on the beach but then disappears to the trees of the Falls. Struck with curiosity, N.asa follows him. She’s not quite sure what draws her to do this, but she has this overwhelming feeling that it’s just something she must do.

Nostrils flared, she pushes through the trees, drinking in the musty scent of the stallion that has trudged through not long before. The air is crisp since the sun set, remnants of winter have been disappearing by the day. The snow has long melted leaving the earth slick and muddy. Trees that have begun renewing with greenery still appear like scraggly spider webs in the light of the moon. She slows her pace, second guessing her decision to follow him as the trees begin to thin revealing the mesmerizing falls. Her movements are slow as she advances to the waters. She pauses, eyes drifting to the splashed stallion she has followed from the trail. Crickets hum in the night, nearly drowned out by the pooling of the falls dipping into the pond. She halts, taking a moment to process why she’s come here. The mood is high in the sky now, offering zero answers to the burning question. Slender neck arched slightly, she bobs her head toward the stallion, a soft whicker escaping her lips. One ear flicks forward to him, while the other rests back, unsure of his reactions. Her weight sinks carefully into her hind, prepared to flee if needed. Her voice catches in her throat, barely audible. “Hello.” It’s all she can muster at this given moment.
