Does China Pose a Long Range Missile Threat to the U.S.?

When having a late night Cocoa last night, I heard a news segment that I found to be a bit unsettling; namely, the assertion that China has become a long range ballistic�missile threat to the U.S.; a threat which we are not currently capable of adequately defending against.

Checking this out, I came across the below-linked article, which seems to somewhat confirm what was said in the news segment.
However, I think the whole situation is somewhat overblown. (Maybe I misunderstood what was being said in the news segment. After all, it was pretty late.
I now think that they were probably talking about China's missile threat in the SouthEast Asia area).
It does sound, however, like the Chinese have recently dramatically increased their long range missile capabilities; a situation that we are now taking steps to more fully counter.
This seems to me to be particularly important, in view of the increasing threat of hostilities in the South China Sea. (See the below post).
