can you see me now?

The stallion was hard to read when his gaze finally did land on her and Raptor. She tried to watch him and study him from her peripheral vision but he wasn't known to her like Bahadir was. Finally, the golden bay started in their direction and Illusion casually lifted her head to watch him approach, ears pricked forward curiosly as her tail gave a gentle swish. As he got closer, she tried even hard to read his body language and his face but it wasn't until his nostrils wrinkled that she had any idea how he felt. He seemed almost displeased and she felt her ears flick back in uncertainty. Was it because of her pregnancy? Of course a new stallion might not like coming to a land to find a mare about to drop another stallion's child but she'd learned that not all stallions were so territorial.

Bahadir had welcomed her and Raptor, after all, even though Raptor's father was a lone stallion Illusion had met in the free lands before the Dunes changed hands. There had been no ill will toward her for being someone else's foal. Maybe this stallion felt differently. Illusion positioned herself more in front of her daughter just in case, her body language still welcoming but tense. If she needed to defend her daughter, it was made clear that she wouldn't hesitate to do so. She knew it would endanger the child she now carried but she would be a failure as a mother if she allowed harm to her yearling daughter and did nothing. He greeted them finally, Illusion first then Raptor. Illusion flared her nostrils to better taste his scent before dipping her head politely. She nudged her daughter's shoulder with her own to remind her of manners, to which Raptor promptly snorted softly and dipped her own head as well.

The golden bay gave his name as Maslakhat. It was a mouthful but Illusion smiled in acknowledgement. "Pleasure to meet you, Maslakhat. I'm Illusion and this is my daughter, Raptor." The sudden sound of hoof beats made her head snap around, brown eyes falling on the tobiano stallion heading their direction with purpose. What was this? A challenger already or something different? Her nostrils flared and picked up on another herd's scent. Was he another lead stallion? Questions and puzzlement flickered in her eyes as Raptor stepped closer to her, the same confusion glinting in her own brown eyes. The stallion didn't act hostile though, dipping his head politely when he got closer and Illusion pricked her ears in curiosity at the grin he gave them. In a way, it reminded her of Kestrel, Raptor's father. It was like a playful side hid just below the surface and he gave her but a glimpse.

She was already hungry to know more. He spoke of Shaydowfax and congratulated Maslakhat on claiming the land before asking if they lived here. Illusion nodded before her gaze slid slowly to the Akhal Teke's, as if in question. "We do...though I guess that answer is currently up in the air. Maybe you should ask him." Illusion's gaze gave a flicker of something more then, a fire burning just below the surface, telling of the iron will hid so well behind a humble exterior.
