// ash and cinder, tongues of flame;

In truth, she had thought herself rather bold determining he would be interested in her particular help, as though he had no one else to ask being that he was an established stallion and so forth, but just as he was compelled by some unusual and unknown purpose to tell her of his troubles - she is compelled to make this offer of mothering his half-orphaned offspring. She barters herself to gain not only the chance to save an innocent, but also for the sake of protecting herself and her rambunctious son. It never occurred to her that he might find her appealing, lovely, as she was rather plain in her country… never occurred to her that he might let her leave with his son. She smiles wanely when he says he would be in her debt, but she nods when he says that she is his mother.

What comes after makes her snap to attention, just a bit of a motherly scolding in her expression. He is not done, though and she is relieved when he accepts the exchange of extending protection to Vulcan with not so much as a blink. It makes her feel only a little badly for having to suggest he would, when it so affronted him, but she does not trust blindly and thought it wise to preemptively create the terms she would need for any strange stallion when a colt was a part of the deal.

When he suggests, however, that she would be welcome to leave with his son - that he would not stop her, she discovered a reason to nip his fears right in the bud. Not needing a father? Letting her take his son? "None of that nonsense, nor the nonsense about not needing you as much as he might need me. A father teaches how to be strong, how to survive when things do not come to you for free, how to fight to keep what is yours. And who, after all, will tell him of his birth mother? I do not know her to tell him anything of importance or comfort." She nods as if she has done her job in her tsk, tsking. "And I will not take him from his home, nor his family. I am simply assimilating into it. I will be his mother, you will be his equally important father, and I would expect Vulcan to be as much your son as your son would be mine. He does, in fact, need a good bite to the rear now and then. His father was much the same in our youth. He will calm as he grows, but until then… I would leave no horse at the mercy of his boundless and frazzling energy."

With that, she shows good humor rather than scolding at last. His regarding her is missed in her sudden comfort, having double security and safety provided by the needs of the stallion, after all. She would call Vulcan who would run circles about them while he led them across the straight towards ‘home’ and ‘son’ and ‘brother’. She explains the word to Vulcan, a bond that could grow if you let it or wither if you did not provide it nourishment. The swim was not as difficult as the first had been and Vulcan was surprisingly fond of the rushing waves and secret currents he felt flowing past and around him. The taste, however, he of course disliked most ardently.

-we can keep going in the herd if u like!-
