strawberries, cherries, and an angel's kiss in spring

strawberries, cherries, and an angel's kiss in spring
my summer wine is really made from all these things.
take off your silver spurs and help me pass the time,
and I will give to you summer wine

Maia’s ears tipped toward the call, her line of sight following to find the stallion who’d beckoned her. He was elegantly built with a coat that glimmered and shone beneath the late spring sunlight. So very different than the last stallion she’d enjoyed an adventure with, Maia couldn’t help the way intrigue already brightened her warm, amber brown eyes and curved just the hint of a smile across her half dark, half pink lips.

Rather than walk to meet him, Maia stood and let him walk to her. It wasn’t a terrible distance, but it was long enough for her to study him, to see his body language, how open and honest he was in his interest to know her, too. Why waste her time on anyone who wasn’t as excited to know her as she was them? Her weight shifted gingerly, hooves picking up in place and landing again. She wanted to toss her head and upset her gray-white forelock, but that was only because the antsy excitement building inside her wanted somewhere to go.

It became her concentration when he stopped in front of her, dangerous smile on his mouth that hers soon matched. His playful question made her smile grow, and she laughed, offering a playful roll of her eyes. Oh stop, she seemed to say teasingly, but that remaining grin said, but also, keep going.

“I was waiting for you,” she said with a breathless laugh still chasing her tone, eyes bright. “Well, I was waiting for someone, whoever I found first, and you just happen to be it.”

Maia considered his question and glanced around them, looking at the wide, flat open area that showed signs of hosting many different horses for years upon years. Her eyes returned to his. “Adventure.” She said plainly, and her smile grew. “Something different. Something I’ve never seen before.” Her voice dropped softly. “Someone I haven’t met before.”

Curiosity gentled her playful expression as she considered him. “What is it you seek to gain from these Common grounds?” She gently tossed his question back to him, but with her ears perked and attention transfixed it was clear she genuinely wanted to know.
