The solution to retain the workforce is very simple. Reduce the training times (no other country keeps a trainee for 7 years in any speciality!) which means feeding the system with younger consultants AND you increase their pay (or reduce their working hours - which is already happening in many places). This approach didn't fancy NHS bosses/CCG and hence they come up with this pandemic scenario to reduce the demand for services and/or divert to other providers and let doctors increase their income by passing on some costs to the patients. Pathetic !
