He enoyed having Vihaan back in the Desert. Her company had been missed dreadfully while she was away and while he would never stand in the way of her going to her family, he felt like a large piece of him was missing the whole time she was gone. He would never feel whole again, not with Zubeia, Geneva, and Zena in the ground, but he was healing and it was easier knowing Primrose was out there somewhere with Paisley, safe and healthy. Having Vihaan here only made him feel that much better, though he felt they still had a lot to talk about. There were still so many words left unsaid between them, so much distance. He ached when he thought about it. How could he undo everything and get her back though? He had no idea where to go, what to say.

He watched her from a distance even as she watched Akello. He couldn't be more proud of the stallion he was growing up to be. Cain saw a lot more of his mother in the boy than himself and that only made him miss Vihaan more when she was gone. Akello was outgoing and kind. He wanted to make friends with everyone and would always lend a helping hand. He was also protective and a calm presence in any storm. Cain admired the way he handled the situation with Carbon and how he'd stand as sentinel over his dying brother when Cain went to find help. He never panicked. Cain looked up from where he was grazing, watching the morning sun slowly rise in the sky. He could only hope the day would bring only good, not bad. He still worried about Mazarine and how Solomon was treating her. Hopefully the stallion wouldn't force a foal on her this season.

Looking around, Cain sighed, ever thankful for the herd he had and the children he could call his own. He wondered if some day he would get to see Paisley again. His heart would never be full without her. When his brown gaze fell on the dunalino mare, his heart skipped a beat and his breathing became more shallow. She always left him breathless with her exotic beauty and the power that arched off her like a siren call. As she stepped closer, he held his ground, his body melting the moment she made contact with him, the nicker from her lips soothing all his fears and doubts as only it could. She murmured words about his sleep and his lips tugged into a small smile. "As peaceful as it can be." He always seemed to be stressing about something these days but he had signed up for this job so what did he expect?

For a moment, he studied her face, trying to read her. But of course she was as steadfast and unreadable as ever. Finally she moved closer and he felt himself relax, his whole demeanor soothed as her presence could always do for him. She pressed her muzzle to his neck and he let out a gentle whicker under his breath, his own head drawing around to bury his nose in her mane and breathe in her sweet scent. He closed his eyes, savoring the moment in case it was about to be broken. He knew the words needed to be spoken but he didn't want to lose any time being with her. She was his kryptonite. She was his salvation.
