o'er the sea to skye

Grier admired Zjeena more than the dun mare likely knew. Hearing her side of the Liland situation had opened her eyes to the darker side of these isles, and he had admired the way the mare laid bare all that had happened. It was a lot to take in, but it had given the entire herd a chance to decide for themselves what it was that they had wanted to do. Her respect for the drappa had only deepened on their further interactions, as sparingly as they were. Zjeena had never failed to treat her with the utmost respect, offering honesty at all times.

Even when she had been warned away from Monster's birth, she had not held a grudge.

Grier could take or leave the silver stallion of Paradise, but she had no desire to part from Zjeena. Or Monster really. Grier knew even less of the fierce co-drappa, but she had treated Grier with respect despite her fearsome reputation and had come to protect her birth of Isla in the same fashion that she had stood guard over Monster's birth.

Between the two of them, her daughter Isla, and her dearest friend Pidgeon, Grier has come to accept her place in Paradise. It's much easier now that her coat is thin and her body adjusted, but a part of her still misses the sense of mystery and history that Tinuvel possessed. She knows that the Jungle is not new, and likely has it's own, but the land is too busy to let it show.

Thankfully, she had been busy too. Isla was a bright, precocious child, unafraid of anything that they had come across. Braver than the lass has any right t'be, Grier thought fondly as her daughter came racing back. Still, Grier had been careful to keep her energetic daughter clear of Zjeena. At first, after the twins had been lost, it had been to avoid causing her more pain. Grier knew that feeling. It had consumed her after she'd lost her own son and she would've moved mountains to take that burden off of her shoulders, if only she knew how.

Instead, she'd hidden away selfishly and let the drappa do the same. Grier would like to think that she had done it to avoid flaunting her own perfect daughter before the mare, but her absence had been selfish. She was too entwined with her daughter to want to remember how sad she had once been, and he regretted her dsitance immensely. The pony mare knew it would have meant the world to her for someone to talk to her as a friend after her loss.

What was done is done, however, and fate had intervened where Grier did not. One day the drappa had emerged with two children at her hips that were as drastically different from her as night and day. Grier didn't know what had transpired to gift the mare such beautiful children, but she thanked the fates repeatedly for offering the mare some kind of solace.

Grier is grazing quietly, watching her daughter play from a short distance away when Zjeena approaches her. She's looking bonny now, happy as a clam. With a grin, the small pony mare extends her muzzle toward Zjeena, her neat ears perked forward.

"I'm well lass, and yerself?" Her voice is warm, and she finds herself relaxing in the mare's presence. Zjeena is one of the few leaders that she has met that does not carry herself as though the title required aloofness and distance from her herd, a quality that Grier appreciates. "Congratulations on the weans, Zjeena. They are beautiful."

The pony mare glances toward where her daughter plays, still oblivious to the conversing adults. She had yet to introduce Isla to Zjeena, but felt that there would be time enough for this. Grier had not met the twin foals that had shadowed the dun mare at Monster's birth, and a part of her felt conflicted about bringing such a sad topic into the conversation. Isnit worse if I don't? Even if it hurts I cannae just ignore their wee souls.

Comfortingly she steps forward and speaks again. "Aye, I'm sure the boys are above too, smiling down on their beautiful momma, as my first little'un is."

Sincerity glows from the small mare's body and while her smile has dimmed at the mention of the children that no longer stand with them, she hopes that the mention of her own lost child, and the implication that she might know some of what Zjeena has felt, would help. Or at least help her not feel so alone.span>
