Trumpeter Swan K80

To my knowledge, Echo Lake has never had a swan. Yesterday morning, a beautiful Trumpeter Swan showed up on our beach. There was a yellow tag with K80 on each wing.

We feed the ducks whole corn and Cady (that's the name I gave him/her, get it?) helped him/herself to the corn as well.

Cady hung around our bay all day - he/she was not afraid and seemed to enjoy the company of humans swimming and sitting on their docks.

Eventually he/she drifted off to the other side and we lost sight.

Cady returned again this morning and was obviously expecting breakfast. Cady even took corn out of my hand.

So around 7am I'm going to be expecting Cady every day now. I hope he/she sticks around until it's time to go back to LaSalle Park in Burlington. Apparently, they are accustomed to humans, so that explains Cady's friendliness.

Cady has been reported to iNaturalist and is part of two collections: Banded Birds, and the Ontario Trumpeter Swan Restoration Project
