Scarecrow was not surprised to hear that Cain's son had possibly approached a mare befitting Maslakhat's description. The lead stallion's children were friendly and forward, and Salem was a land prone to wanderers that flowed across the land as frequently as tumbleweeds. Still, the thought that Akello (or Carbon, although he doubted the youngest was the culprit here) had gone to see a stranger without some sort of escort made him uneasy. His own son Aries was a fierce colt already, and it would not be long before his independence lead him to wander.

As Cain mentioned the mares that had been lost, Crow's eyes dropped to the ground and his tail flicked across his hinds. They would not be forgotten here among the desert sands, nor would the strange circumstances of their deaths.

Maslakhat moves smoothly on, although Scarecrow was glad to see of the reverence he paid to the mares and children that he had not known. He brushes aside Cain's offer to assist in the search for the mare, and Crow was not sure if it was simply because the search for the mare was a ruse or his reluctance to burden them was a genuine one. Silently he eyed the stallion for a long moment before inclining his head, noticing his shift in posture.

"Surely the least we can do is ask after her if we find ourselves on the Crossing. I can ask my mate as well, she has lived on Salem longer than I and may know more." The paling stallion pauses for a brief moment before continuing. "Should we tell her it is you, Maslakhat, that is searching for her?"

The question is neutral, but it is intended to allow him to glean a little more information about the golden bay stallion before he departs. He had composed himself as a gentleman thus far, but that did not mean that Shararat had not attempted to flee from him in the first place, necessitating the search. And while Scarecrow had no strong feelings either way about keeping unhappy mares, he was not about to go out of his way to return a girl who was likely to run away again.
