She knew she was crowding him. She wasn't afraid of rebuttal or retribution. If he dared to bite her, he'd better believe she'd bite back ten times harder. She wasn't a pushover and wasn't about to start being one now. He tossed his head and rolled his eyes but she didn't back down. If this was the only way to get him to talk to her, then so be it. Maybe with time they could work through their awkwardness and move past this but she'd take what she could get for now. As they talked, she started to relax a little, letting him see another side of her though she was loathe to admit it. Talking about feelings? Ugh. But something had to get through to him. She wasn't trying to stop him from having a lineage. No, that was his job as a lead stallion. He needed to have a strong base of mares to raise a dynasty out of. She understood that and she wouldn't stand in the way of that. She knew a Queen and her King weren't exclusive. That's not how you kept your herd strong and united, after all.

She had a problem with the particular relationship he had with that Queen on Atlantis, that's it. Something about it made her feel like no matter what she did, she would never be on the same level as her when it came to Ironclad and that didn't feel fair to her. Maybe she was just too young to understand it, but she was to be his Queen and she felt at the end of the day, no one should touch her when it came to him. Yet, here she was already feeling obsolete. When she stomped her hoof, he jumped and she had to fight the urge to giggle. Why was he so jumpy? A young stallion shouldn't be this jumpy. Didn't he spar with his siblings or anything growing up? She had brothers so she learned early how to keep up. When she softened, she saw him relax a little more and he actually looked like he might be thinking about coming closer. Was the bleeding heart the only way to truly draw his attention? If so, this relationship was doomed from the start cause she hated feeling like this. She'd much rather lash out in anger.

He started to speak then said he didn't know she felt that way. She snorted and looked at the ground. "Well you barely say two words to me so how would you know?" She murmured the words bitterly but knew he could hear her. When he reached out, she snapped her head back up and stiffened, unsure. He never really touched her besides when they were playing in the meadow. That feels like so long ago already though it was only a few months. His nose brushed her shoulder and she hissed through her teeth but held her ground. Her teeth clacked together as if fighting the urge to bite back in retaliation but somehow knowing that would only push their progress back. Finally she shook out her mane and let out a tense breath to loosen up her muscles. Her ears pricked as he said he wouldn't be giving out his seed to all the islands but he had history with the mare. She grimaced. Yeah, she could have guessed that.

His next words were like a slap in the face when he said he'd known her a lot longer and they made a promise. Her ears folded back once more and anger flicked back to life. She gnashed her teeth together with more promise this time as she lashed out at him with a fore leg. "Oh yeah? Anything like the promise you made my father when you asked for me to be your betrothed? You need to remember something, Ironclad. I didn't ask for this. I didn't ask to be your betrothed. I didn't even know you. You chose ME. Any other promises I should be aware of? I need to know now how much lockdown I should put on my own feelings so they don't get in the way of your history and your promises." She spit the words out, the hurt evident in her eyes and she didn't care. When she said feelings, she meant her heart, but she didn't want to spell it out for him.

Feeling emboldened (like always), she took another step toward him till they were practically breathing the same air. Her voice was lower but no less intense, wanting him to realize some things. "Do you have any idea how much I sacrificed for this betrothal? What did you have to give up, eh? A mare that hurt your feelings? A mare you didn't even care about anymore? Well, boo hoo. I could have thrown a fit and refused to come. Maybe my father would have made me anyway. Maybe he wouldn't have. But no, I cooperated, looking forward to it like a new adventure. I left my home. I left my family. I left my friends. I came here to this new island far away from everything I know only to find out the guy I'm supposed to be bonding with is off bonding with other mares because he knew them first. How is that supposed to make me feel, Ironclad? Like wet garbage left out to dry? Cause that basically covers it. What am I to you? Arm candy? Another notch in your post? Leverage over my father some day?"

He admitted that he owed her something too but it wasn't enough. He admitted he was neglecting her and said he would do better. She tossed her head and finally took a step back. She made it known this would be her decision to back off, her decision to leave. "We'll see." She finally said with a defeated tone, her ears finally relaxing from their flattened state as she sighed and looked back down at the ground. She had that yearning again for her parents, her family. If only they were here to nuzzle her and tell it would all be okay. But no, that was the foal in her, the weakness in her. She was here all alone and she would have to make it on her own. She turned her shoulder to him so he wouldn't see the tears threatening at the back of her eyes. No, she wouldn't dare show him her feelings. He didn't deserve them, not yet.
