Pilar was not the sort to finish anything she started. She was very much a mottled leaf in the autumn breeze; past its prime and fallen away from the security of the branches, only to be tossed about haplessly in whichever direction until the winds calmed and she would arrive upon the ground so that her physical form might return to the earth as fodder for the next generation. She was a mortal soul, after all, and unlike the thousand year wisdom Rille possessed, she was not meant for longevity.
The stallion at her side remained unconvinced of this, and as she turned to dart away, she felt the allure of the autumn pull her back toward him. Yes, to him this was the beginning, but she was not so sure. Still he galloped alongside her, jubilant and persuasive. She cannot deny that they are complementary in both shape and stride, and from his perspective this was enough. It endeared her to him that despite her clumsiness, he continued his pursuit so readily and Pilar had to admit that it felt good to be pursued.
He danced around her, surging ahead and then dropping back; she followed his steps with her nose each direction as her curved ears swiveled in accordance as well. Pilar snorted, deciding he was precisely the distraction she needed right now.
“Why not!” She called into the wind, her dark mane and tail strewn behind her like a banner, a stark contrast to the fire-red of his own. She dug her small hooves into the sand and surged in front of him, not daring to look back, but inviting him to pursue her even further.
“Maybe if you catch me, I’ll tell you my name!” She called back to him with a hint of playfulness in her voice.
