i'll get under your skin

She didn't fully understand the system most Arabians set up with wives and such, her sense of pride getting in the way of thinking of any stallion she let have her attention wanting to put his attention on other mares as well. It just seemed so unfair, but her mother explained to her as a growing filly that's how it was supposed to work. Everyone had their purpose and their duties and the mare's duty was to support her husband and give him strong children. Since she could only provide one a year, it made sense for him to have multiple wives so he could have a powerful lineage. Corona didn't understand how he couldn't just have power with one wife, but maybe she didn't fully understand it and maybe she never would. Either way, she was just going with it for now and maybe some day, it would just click. Or she'd die alone or find someone outside the tradition of Arabian tradition. Who knows? She was keeping her options open.

In the meantime, she was interested in seeing this beautiful home Sayyida spoke of and at least getting to see the handsome brothers she talked about. Even if they didn't hit it off, eye candy was never a bad thing, right? Even feeling the bay mare's eyes on her as they walked didn't faze Corona. She lived for all attention on her and loved to bask in the spotlight. Her eyes sparkled as she danced across the meadow, ready to sink her hooves into some golden sand at last. The other mare seemed so happy with her life and her home that Corona was sure she was going to love it as well. When she mentioned the sabino mare must know more about the other islands and herds, Sayyida surprised her by shaking her head but offered a smile. Corona waited for words to follow but when none did, she tilted her head and decided to shrug it off for now. Maybe she wanted Corona to see for herself some day, or she didn't know so much about them cause she found her happily ever after and stayed there most of the time. Corona wouldn't blame her.

Who knows? Maybe she'd never want to leave once she ventured to the Dunes, herself. When the grey mare told Sayyida that she, too, fled a bad marriage, the rabicano gasped in her own surprise. It was nice to meet someone who knew what her own past was like, even if they probably had different reasons for leaving. As Sayyida reached toward her, Corona smiled and nickered lightly in gratitude, reaching over to blow gently in the bay's nostrils to further cement their friendship. She said she was glad Corona was free of Vapor and he didn't deserve her. Corona lifted her head, shaking out her forelock. "No, he certainly does not." She agreed with a snort. When they spoke of Sayyida's husband, her whole body seemed to glow with happiness and Corona felt a bit of envy, hoping some day she could feel the same when talking about a stallion. Her words made the grey mare smile. "Glad to hear it. I wish you two all the happiness for both your lifetimes." When Corona agreed to come with her, the bay mare grew excited, saying it was the best news and Corona laughed lightly with a nod. She was excited to see this place of sands and dunes and the beautiful Arabians that occupied it. Corona felt it must be really something.

Sayyida said she would call someone called Atair, one of the brothers she was referring to, and Corona's ears perked up as her brow arched. He must have been standing by if she could call for him from here so the grey mare let her own gaze sweep over the meadow around them, hoping to catch a glimpse before he saw them. Of course, he'd probably already been watching them so she was screwed there. When the bay turned back to her, she explained that Atair came as her escort to keep her safe from wandering eyes of other stallions because of the season and Corona nodded. "Understandable. I am grateful for his watchful eye." Sayyida was so beautiful that Corona would sure other stallions would be fools not to look her way when she went by. As for herself, she tried to slow the arching sweep of her own tail at the thought of the season, knowing she was just fanning her own heat out there for others to smell. She hadn't even thought of it till this moment and she'd hate to make Atair's job that much harder.

Sayyida pressed her muzzle forward once again and Corona smiled, exchanging breaths with her once more, caught up in her contagious excitement as she spoke of them going to the Dunes so she could meet everyone. Her hooves threatened to dance of their own accord at the thought. "I can't wait to meet them and see your lovely home." The sound of hoof beats had her grey head lifting then, nostrils flaring as her brown eyes set on the dark stallion who came charging toward them. Was this Atair? He seemed like he was on an urgent mission, though he slid to a stop some distance away and approached more at a walk once he seemed to look over the situation at hand. Was he concerned about Sayyida's welfare? Adorable. Corona felt the corners of her lips twitch in amusement, her gaze appraising his well muscled form and the speckles of white that dotted his sweaty skin. The smell of blood burned her nostrils and her brows furrowed in concern, taking in the fresh wounds and wondered if he'd already been hard at work turning away an interested suitor in Sayyida while they were talking.

Seems he made quite the efficient escort. He responded back to Sayyida in arabic and Corona snorted lightly, dipping her head politely before turning her gaze back to the bay mare as she spoke again. Sayyida introduced her brother in law gracefully and Corona couldn't help the twinkle of amusement in her eyes as she pricked her ears attentively and listened. A lot of titles, so Sayyida was either super proud of his accomplishments or she was trying to emphasize them for her own sake. She noted the startled look from Atair himself before he composed himself and stretched out his leg to bow more formally. When he spoke to her in Arabic again, Corona dipped her head low once more. "sharaf muqabalatak 'aydaan, Atair." She let the words roll smoothly off her tongue. In a way, it felt good to be speaking her first language again. He parents spoke it religiously around her as a foal but as she grew, they spoke more of the second language until they rarely used Arabic at all save when they got into heated arguments or wanted to be romantic with each other.

As the stallion rose back to his hooves, he explained the titles and his greeting in turn. Corona simple smiled in return, though her eyes cut to Sayyida slyly in a knowing way. "Way to put him on the spot," they seemed to say to the bay mare. Atair then said he'd already chased a stallion away, confirming Corona's suspicions about the new wounds on his coat. He seemed anxious to get back and Corona felt her own excitement brimming once more to see this land and the other horses that inhabit it. As he backed off to let them pass, Corona tilted her head toward Sayyida. "After you, my friend." She murmured, all too happy to take up her place at the other mare's side so they could continue their conversation on the way.

sharaf muqabalatak 'aydaan: an honor to meet you as well
