Her worried gaze swept to Valka as if for reassurance at this new turn of events. The Inlet no longer belonged to Warsaw and his heirs. It belonged to someone else, and if she didn't know any better, she'd say the little red mare knew more than she was letting on. There was a flicker of something in her eyes as she looked toward the neighboring herd. Was it recognition? Did she know the stallion who won? Medusa knew she could ask, but did it really matter? She wouldn't know the name, anyway. She never was good at learning about the other herds. She thought her whole life was planned out for her and at the time, she remembered being so excited about it. She didn't have to worry about a thing. She would be cared for and looked after. But that's not what happened. Ironclad promised to look after her and maybe he was just young. Medusa thought maybe he did the best he could, but he was trying to make a name for himself and seemed fond of the attention of mares, as much as he could handle. If not, more.

She tried to remind herself that jealousy had no room in a Queen. Her king would be sowing his seed in all his mares, but did he have to love them all equally? No, she saw the differences back home. Her father had a good balance with both his queens. He loved all his mares but there was a difference in how he treated them vs. her mother. She was his equal, as Medusa assumed his other Queen was. The others were under his protection but they were not his Queens. She wanted that, and maybe it was too much to ask of Ironclad so soon. They still barely knew each other, but was it too much to ask for a little more effort? He hadn't even come looking for her since the battle started. Shouldn't he be wondering where she was and if she was okay? The filly sighed and shook out her mane. He must still be mad at her about the fight they had. Or he's too busy with one of his other mares. It was the breeding season, after all and she couldn't do anything for him. Not yet.

She stomped her hoof in the sand. She wasn't even sure she wanted his attention now. Maybe it was best they part ways like this. Her parents might be disappointed in her breaking the promise made between two stallions but in the end, she knew even her father would want what's best for her. He would find it in his heart to understand because she was his daughter, his princess. Of course, none of that mattered right now. She wasn't planning on going back to her parents anytime soon, not till she figured out her next move. What was her next move? Medusa knew asking Valka if she could stay here wasn't a small favor and she gave the chestnut mare plenty of time to think it through. She didn't want to bring any trouble for her friend. If it came down to it, she would leave before that happened. She just wanted to feel safe for a little while. She didn't want to be alone anymore. Valka was her only friend and she felt she could learn a lot from her. The other mare finally looked at her and made sure she wanted to stay, asking about Ironclad. Medusa scowled thoughtfully before she shrugged with another heavy sigh.

"To tell you the truth, I don't even know if he'll come looking for me. We had a fight before I left and he might still be mad at me. He's been pretty 'busy' with his other mares." She couldn't help the slight growl in her voice when she said the word. Yes, she was still fighting the jealousy. She looked back up at Valka. "If he does happen to come though, I'll take care of it. I don't want to cause you any trouble so if I have to leave with him, I will. I just...don't want to be alone right now." She looked back down at the sand so Valka wouldn't see the vulnerable look in her eyes. It was times like this she felt like a filly again and she hated herself for being weak like a child. She wasn't supposed to be helpless anymore. She was supposed to be showing everyone that she could take care of herself and here she was throwing herself at the hooves of the first mare who's ever been nice to her (besides her mom, of course) all because she was "lonely."

She would never ask Valka to take in Ironclad too if he wanted to stay, but she couldn't see him wanting to do that anyway. He'd probably want to go to his precious Queen on Atlantis. She pawed angrily at the sand at just the thought. Her head snapped up with wide eyes though when the red mare spoke, saying she could stay. "Really? Thank you, Valka! Thank you so much! I promise I won't be any trouble." She practically squealed the first words, her hooves dancing in the sand before she started rambling off promises, hoping she could keep them. A smile tugged at the tobiano's lips when Valka reached out to touch her shoulder. Usually, her first reaction would be squeal defiantly at someone's touch, but this was Valka. Somehow, it was okay. The chestnut spoke again, saying it was better for both of them to sit and think for a minute. She said they were young and it was easy to make mistakes. She scowled. Was it a mistake to just go along with what her father arranged and go with him to the Inlet?

Was it a mistake to entrust her future to a colt she'd never met? Was it a mistake to leave before a battle and then not tell anyone where she was? Maybe most of it was impulsive and that was on her, but she needed this taste of freedom. At least, that was what she'd keep telling herself. Medusa's voice was softer this time as she dipped her head politely to the pony mare. "Thank you again, Valka. I'll owe you, if that does end up meaning anything for the future. I may never be a Queen, but I will do all I can to pay you back for your kindness."
