Tiny Marsh advice

Going for my first visit Monday. Site says 'opens at 8', but you can go in and start hiking around early, correct? (Guessing just the visitor's centre open at 8.) Also, any advice for an unseasoned birder looking for new birds? (A rail or black tern would be amazing to spot!)
