Re(3): Could Trump Refuse to Accept the November Election Results? Posted on 7/27/2020 at 12:02:57 by John Wells
It’s not up to the president or any candidate to accept or reject the results of the “election.” Article II, Section 1, paragraph 2:
“Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress: but no Senator or Representative, or Person holding an Office of Trust or Profit under the United States, shall be appointed an Elector.”
This entire discussion about Congress passing a law about voting by mail flies in the face of this paragraph, which gives each State’s legislature the power to direct how the electors are chosen. Congress has no say regardless of how many laws they pass. In the hierarchy of law, the Constitution is at the top, and the above paragraph applies regardless of what Congress may or may not do. The Leftists might want to change the way votes for president are counted, but they can’t. I suggest Pelosi and AOC read Washington’s Farewell Address, before they try to ignore the Constitution. Any state’s legislature can change how they allocate their electors, but Congress is forbidden to have any say in the matter.
