Since arriving on the Isles, Kaiju had experienced a strange turmoil of emotions. It was the first big change he had ever endured in his short life, and he found that it just kept changing no matter what kind of normalcy he tried to hold onto. This evening, as he grazed with a pleasantly tired ache in his muscles, he decided for the first time to just let go of stability. He had made it this far and survived, hadn’t he? How much weirder could it get?

Despite this very comforting mindset he found himself adopting - it was stressful to keep looking for constants and be continuously disappointed, when he could just embrace change as his one constant - he was woefully unprepared for the small squeal that pierced his ears from somewhere closeby. He spooked in place, legs splaying comically as his enormous head shot up from the grass. For a few long seconds he stared, calming himself as his eyes found the source of the noise: a painted yearling, almost entirely shrouded in Kaiju’s own shadow apart from her ears which glowed in the evening light.

The tall stallion let out the tense breath he had been holding, his ears trained on the filly as she spoke, apologizing for the scream. He chuckled nervously; his alarm was melting away, replaced by anxious relief and now nerves as he realized he was talking to a girl. ”Ah, that’s okay. I guess we’re even?” he joked, his voice much steadier than he thought it rightfully should be. He stepped to the side to remove his shadow from the young tobiano. After a moment's hesitation, he took an additional step forward to exchange breaths with the yearling. Remembering Galexia’s scolding, he held her gaze, his warm amber eyes finding it much easier not to wander this time. He couldn’t tell if it was his (somewhat) heightened confidence after winning the battles, or because this mare was much less intimidating than his palomino friend.

As he recalled the fights Galexia had asked him to participate in, Kaiju found it a bit easier to ignore his nerves. He puffed his chest up a bit, thinking something along the lines of being responsible for protecting this lone yearling as it was growing dark, just because he could. ”Hey, what are you doing out here so late, anyway? It’s almost dark. Oh, my name is Kaiju, by the way.” Outside of feeling important and protective, the black stallion was genuinely curious about the filly’s situation. Did her parents know she was here? If Kaiju had been left alone as a yearling for more than a few minutes, he certainly would have panicked.
