i'll get under your skin

It was obvious Sayyida was having a blast teasing Atair and Corona had to tighten her jaw to keep from giggling in amusement. They already acted like such a tight family unit. In a way, she envied that. Her own family was never exactly tight. Her parents thought as one and almost acted as one. The rest of her herd had its own cliques but she always felt apart from them. She was always good at gaining attention everywhere she went, but it felt superficial, never because someone truly wanted to get to know her, not like she already felt in Sayyida's presence. It warmed her to the core to have someone to joke and vent to. She only hoped to find more of that in the Dunes. When the stallion admitted to fighting off an admirer, the grey mare could see Sayyida's mask of joy slide a little, but as everything seemed to be okay and he was in one piece, it wasn't long before she'd moved on and looked happy again.

The bay sabino bowed her head to Atair, but not before throwing a saucy wink in Corona's direction, which had her brown eyes twinkling with amusement. Then the words were said, "let us return home." A sigh of hope fell from Corona's lips as she nodded in agreement and followed Sayyida's pace to head toward the other island. Her heart was practically racing in her chest, excitement and nerves toppling each other as she looked ahead, wondering what she'd find. The chill of the ocean cooled her as they launched into the waves and began the swim. She stuck close to the bay mare, knowing Atair would have their backs. As they trudged up on shore, she gave a snort to clear her nostrils and shook out her thin coat, nostrils flaring as she straightened up and looked around. Sand, as far as the eye could see. Her eyes lit up with excitement. She could practically feel it flying beneath her hooves as she ran already. It was truly beautiful.

When she glanced at her friend, she noted the mare looking around and her brow lifted knowingly. She must be wondering where her husband went to. As the graying bay gave a call, Corona snorted softly, her hooves dancing in the sand with pent up energy as she continued to look around. Her neck arched and her ears strained forward, dished face spinning this way and that as her bright almond eyes took in everything around her. The water from the ocean left her coat looking more silver than grey but she knew it wouldn't take long for the sun's warmth to dry her. At Sayyida's words, Corona turned her gaze back to her and smiled. "It was refreshing, and thank you, Sayyida." Genuine gratitude flashed in her eyes. To be able to live in a place such as this would truly be a gift. When the mare beside her mentioned going to an oasis, she nodded eagerly and fell into step with her. "Lead the way."

Her ears flciked toward the other mare as she spoke, telling Corona of the four brothers and other mares and visitors. When she said there was no children, Corona couldn't help but eye Sayyida's side, especially when she mentioned the spring. Her lips turned up in a sly smirk. "A blessing well deserved." She purred knowingly. As the mare moved gracefully up a dune, Corona giggle in delight and raced after her, skidding to a stop in the sand as the other mare turned back to their escort and asked after his shoulder. She eyed him curiously once more while waiting on a response, her brow lifting expectantly as she waited for him to answer Sayyida.
