Veles

The approaching sound and scent alerted Veles that she would soon have company. A mare, who’s perfume often drifted over her nose since the first day Gnome had brought her here. Sadly, she had not met her, or anyone else among the herd. Not for lack of wanting, but more of uncertainty. It was her own kin that had done away with her because of her ailments, why would a stranger not? Though Gnome had never once gave her the impression that the Island horses were anything like her homeland.

A rumbling sound escaped Veles in reply of the whicker she heard to her right side, turning her head and perking her ears forward in a friendly way. She even extended her nose, offering to exchange breaths if the other mare wanted, but she didn’t seek any further contact. It was often uncomfortable to those unused to her condition. But by the sounds the mare made, from the weight in her steps to the sound of her voice, Veles guessed her to be bigger, but not achingly so. It was the only picture she could make without seeking that touch.

“Paradise is as it’s namesake.” Veles replied, knowing for a mare like her, it couldn’t be anything else. If she had found herself elsewhere, navigation would have been much harder, if not impossible. “My name is Veles, who might I be speaking with?” She asked, her attention still fixed upon the mare. Her son would not go too far, and had no doubt already spotted the mare with his mother. Rather than worry, Veles was sure that he would continue to take advantage of the freedom he had from her side.
