It seemed young Kaiju’s confidence was fickle. His interaction with Arkana had helped even it out a bit, but he no longer had the feeling of invincibility from the fight, and he missed that in particular. He knew he should have gone to the Desert immediately when he heard Galexia had claimed it, but something held him back; was it insecurity? Fear? Probably both. He wasn’t sure he was worthy of Galexia’s affections, despite the gauntlet he had endured to get them. He felt so young, so inexperienced, and it was overwhelming to think that in such a short time on these islands he had already gotten himself so involved. He had a mate and a child who needed him, and potentially an entire territory to protect should he find his way to the Desert. Part of him wanted to bail on all of it, to leap back into the ocean and search for his mother and resume their peaceful life of travel and solitude.

But he could not do that.

In the end, it takes nearly all of his courage to continue on to the Desert, but he forces himself into the choppy sea and will himself forward. For Galexia; for their child. Less so for the territory, but he knows how ambitious his golden mate is, and it is important to support her wherever she goes. If he could endure the fighting on the Crossing, he could do it again if he had to, and even if he lost at least he could say that he tried. But will Galexia allow him to remain in her company if he fails to protect the Desert? That thought made his heart flutter unpleasantly, but still he swims on, fighting the dark and difficult waves.

The swim seems to take forever, but at least the roughness of the sea helps him push away his fears, and when he finally arrives at the golden sands of the Desert, he realizes that the exhausting journey was worth it. He can see Galexia’s golden figure atop one of the dunes, and he charges forward, enormous hooves eating up the sand with ease. As he draws near, he can see that she is heavy with pregnancy, and this only reassures him further that he made the right decision in coming. His shy heart swells with joy, and he runs around Galexia in a tight circle, well aware that she might punish him for being late; but he does not care.

”You are so brave,” he says with intense admiration as he finally stops, sending a wave of sand into the air that barely misses his mate. He feels electrified, and he can hardly stand still as he dances in front of her, his heavy form stirring up the sand beneath him. ”I’m so sorry you had to wait. I should have been here.” Cautiously, as he begins to calm, he reaches for Galexia with his dark muzzle, hoping she will allow him to pull her close and show his remorse.
