It felt good to have the Desert back under his sole ownership, but the near loss of his precious home made it very clear he needed to make some changes. Maybe it was time to start embracing alliances instead of relying on keeping his herd tucked away in its own little world. They managed to stay out of the war that ravaged the islands, but it would be nice to have friends that had his back. He was glad he had Scarecrow. The loyal stallion had stayed even when Galexia took over so Cain was more than happy to re-instate him as his Second. The older stallion had more than proved himself and he was happy enough to see his little family growing. Libra had already given him two children since she came to live here with him. The tobiano was glad to see Scarecrow getting to live out his later years settled and happy. He deserved it. There was still so much left unfinished though. When Galexia claimed the desert, Cain lost someone very precious to him, Vihaan. He followed her to Luthien but had yet to find her. He didn't care how many trips it took at this point. She couldn't avoid him forever and he wanted closure. If she was going to break his heart, he would make her do it up front. She owed him that much. Sure, he put her and Primrose through a lot in their earlier years together, but he was a different stallion now, no mistaking it. There was only so much groveling he could do to make up for it. Nothing would change the past, but he was changing the future every day. Meanwhile the rest of his herd was counting on him and he wouldn't let them down this time. He would be more present and attentive and reach out more. He would take in more lost travelors who needed a sanctuary. They didn't have to stay. He only wanted to give them a safe place to lay their head until they knew where they were going. It had become his mission in life. So far he'd gained three new herd members from it but even if they chose to leave some day, he wouldn't be upset. He would rejoice in helping them grow in a safe place while they were with him. He was a little sad to notice that Nadine, the sweet little mare Berit had brought to the desert, was nowhere to be found. He wondered what happened to her. Did she leave when Galexia claimed the desert? He couldn't say he blamed her. He thought about going out in search of her but decided against it. He had no reason to believe she was taken against her will. If she chose to leave, then he wished her luck. There was only one mare he was worried about and that was the mare from the Common, the one he'd defended against Rougaru when he was supposed to be at his territory. The one that kept him from fighting off Galexia's claim. The mare had been so frightened but even in her fear, she fought against the Atlantis stallion's force claim and Cain was proud of her for it. He wanted to know she was okay but he hadn't heard from her since she ran off down the beach. Maybe Rougaru never caught up to her? He wondered if he should go by Paradise just to see if she was around. He would fight Rougaru for her freedom if he had to. She was worth it. Sighing, the draft stallion shook the cold ocean water from his coat as he wandered up on land. His destination for now was the Falls, where he could get a good drink of fresh clean water and work out what his next step would be to insure the safety of the desert. He made his way to the large pool of water, mesmerized by the falling water for a moment and soothed by the sounds it made before he lowered his head to drink.
