He didn't take it personally when his herd mares didn't seek him out all at once when Galexia claimed the desert. Harlequin was the only one really who came looking for him and he was grateful to her for her emotional support when he needed it. Harlequin had no idea the strength she gave him to go to Luthien finally and get the closure he needed with Vihaan. He would tell her soon enough, though. As for the rest, he knew his herd could take care of itself. They were strong mares. He knew that when he asked them to come to the desert. He knew they could thrive in this climate and if they can thrive here, they can thrive anywhere. Chimeras was still new to the desert but she fit in just fine. He watched as she grazed and wandered the desert sands with the rest of the herd and as she made fast friends with his youngest son, Carbon.

The perlino mare seemed to like his idea of bringing her flowers and the stallion took it to heart, thinking maybe he needed to work on his wooing game. The mare reached out to take them gently and he smiled as she laid them at her hooves. They would probably be a snack later but he didn't mind. It's not like he expected her to frame them and hang them on a tree to gaze at forever. It was just the thought in the moment. As her nose brushed his own in gentle gratitude, his eyes softened noticably, glad that she could trust him enough to touch him when most seemed intimidated by him for some time upon first getting here. There was a nervous energy about the mare but she held her own quite well. When she thanked him, he dipped his head. As she answered his question, he pricked his ears, giving her his full attention. She remarked, of course, on the change in leadership and how the true desert herd stayed. He tried not to flinch where she could see it, his mind returning once more to his golden mare, Vihaan, who left him in his time of need.

She was here before anyone besides Primrose, his longest standing member, and yet she chose to go back to the prairie and her family. He couldn't say he blamed her. He just hated the idea that she would raise his unborn child where he couldn't see them any time he wanted. Would Shamwari even let him visit or would he have to arrange to meet Vihaan on the Crossing? He wanted to be a part of his child's life. Was that too much to ask? He already missed out on so much of Paisley's life. He didn't want to repeat that with a child who may never know him even from birth. The stallion brushed those thoughts away to get back to the present and the pretty mare that stood before him. "You are right. I never doubted the strength of this herd. I don't blame Galexia, either. She is ambitious and I look forward to seeing what she can do some day as a leader. Hopefully she'll count me as an ally when that day comes."

Chimeras' next words brought him pause. She brought up the lead mare position and his head tilted a little in curiosity. True, it had been vacant since Geneva's untimely demise and though Vihaan had sought to gain it, apparently it didn't call her as strongly as her familial bond which left it open once again. He didn't believe in handing it over as a gift like some stallions might. Cain was trying something different. If the herd wanted a certain mare as their leader, who was he to deny them? She said then that she wanted to step forward and fill that spot. He smiled with encouragement. "I appreciate the interest and like you, I agree that the spot has been vacant long enough. You have my blessing as long as other members of the herd agree. If a majority vote agrees, the title is yours. If not, I have had mares challenge for the position in the past." Geneva won the title over Harlequin herself in the past then offered the other mare a position as Guardian for her will to fight. It was a good moment, to see the mares coming together like that. Perhaps he would see a moment like that again soon.
